Another extreme overdevelopment that is ruinous to the preservation of historic Sag Harbor [“Potter Development Plans Submitted to Sag Harbor Village Show Pair of Three-Story Buildings,” 27east.com, August 30]. Any one part of this — 39 apartments, or 11,000 square feet of retail, or a 16,144-square-foot complex (plus parking) — is too much.
Compare the Harbor Close Condo across the street, on about the same size lot, with 32 units and 32 parking spots. Now, envision adding 11 retail stores (1,000 square feet each) and two more Harbor Close buildings (16,144 square feet), plus 100 new parking spots. See what I mean? There’s not enough space on this environmentally fragile acre; flood, ground pollution, sewer limitations. And so many variances, if given, set a precedent.
Adam Potter, I would like to see you keep our Sag Harbor vibe and just renovate/expand/upgrade the “sort of” historic buildings you purchased, including their gravel driveways, trees and lawns.
