Overstating

Kudos to the Board of Trustees of North Haven for addressing the continuous issue of cellphone coverage in North Haven. Poor to no cellphone coverage in and around North Haven is matter of safety and security that needs to be improved.

The two authors of the letters “It’s A Haven” and “Money Grab” from the May 1 issue of The Sag Harbor Express both overstated the size and footprint of a single cell tower. The tower size discussed in the last Board of Trustees meeting was a 110-foot tower, with a base of 2,500 square feet — not 150 feet tall, nor a footprint that is a “football field-sized piece of land.” A 110-foot-tall tower is only modestly higher than the surrounding trees.

As to the flora and fauna, I haven’t noticed any lack of squirrels, raccoons and flora on Millstone Road, with two monstrous towers nearby, for years.

As to CityScape Consultants, the following is from their website: “CityScape Consultants has represented thousands of communities across the nation and we are not affiliated with any tower owner or service provider.”

Personally, I would prefer a single-tower solution. We already have enough poles on the roads servicing electric and cable.

That said, any solution that improves coverage is a plus.
