Richard J. Flood of Sag Harbor died peacefully on December 16 with the love of his life MaryAnn by his side. He was 77.
A well-known contractor and owner of OPH Construction in Sag Harbor, he was respected for his skill, but beloved for his generous spirit, sense of humor and love for his family and friends, his family said.
He could always be found outdoors — on their boat “For Now” with a fishing pole in his hands, on the trails with MaryAnn and Fluke by his side, or on the slopes in Vermont and many points west.
He made his home an open house to everyone, celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and many holidays, cooking on the grill or making traditional holiday meals from St. Patty’s Day, to Easter, to Thanksgiving — a favorite holiday that coincided with his birthday.
He will be missed by his many friends, but especially his family — MaryAnn, along with his children Thomas and wife Terri, Kristine, and James; and his grandchildren who he treasured.
In lieu of flowers, Richie and MaryAnn would like donations to two organizations that have been important to their lives — Long Island Sled Hockey Association (lisledhockey.org) and East End Hospice (eeh.org).
