Friday marked the 19th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the downing of United Airlines Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Friday morning, the North Sea Community Association hosted its annual remembrance at the North Sea Community House, ringing its bell 19 times beginning at 8:46 a.m., and lowering the flag to half staff. In Southampton, the Southampton Fire Department hosted a memorial and sounded its siren at 8:46 a.m. to note when the North Tower was hit; at 9:03 a.m. when the South Tower was hit; at 9:37 a.m. when the Pentagon was hit; at 9:59 a.m. when the South Tower collapsed; at 10:07 a.m. when Flight 93 crashed; and at 10:28 a.m. when the North Tower collapsed.
