In reference to the proposal by Joseph McLaughlin, who is running for Southampton Village trustee, that alcohol be sold at Coopers Beach [“A Trial Balloon,” Letters, July 9]: Really dumb idea, Joe. Last I heard, Coopers Beach was a family beach — many teens, pre-teens and kids all around. And you propose serving alcohol? But only beginning with beer and wine (maybe later the hard stuff).
Apparently, you do not have the depth to consider the ramifications of such a demented move in this village. How would it be policed? It really goes without saying, as anyone with any brains can figure that one out.
Have you considered another ambition, apart from village trustee?
