A Certain Rumor

Socrates once said that slander is the tool of the loser — and never has this phrase been more appropriate than now.

I am a person who chooses to address matters head-on. This has held me in good stead as a Southampton Village trustee.

In a world where fake news is so prevalent, it is a shame that rumor can become fact so quickly and so easily. This is why I have chosen to address one particular matter through public media.

A certain rumor has come to my attention: People think I am involved in the development of the Village Latch, to the extent that I have a financial interest in its conception and its completion, and that I am receiving ongoing financial incentives in the project moving forward.

Not only am I not involved in this particular project, I have never been involved in any real estate project or development in my professional career, nor do I have any knowledge of or experience in real estate development. I may actually be the last person I, myself, would approach to be involved in something like this!

I moved to the village in 1974, and I bought my first home here in 1999. I am passionate about the village and this community. For this reason, I ran as a candidate for village trustee in 2019.

It is my hope, with the election approaching on September 15, that real questions can be asked of the candidates, and that all village residents will take the opportunity to ask, listen and learn about candidates — and not rely on speculation and conjecture to form their opinions.
