A Choice To Make

After months of reading about Nick LaLota’s campaign, and the misinformation he and his staff are spreading about how he represents Long Islanders, I find the need to speak out to my fellow East Enders.

LaLota’s record is clearly one that follows every MAGA-instructed position on abortion, taxes, immigration, the environment and gun control. Are these positions that support his constituents in Congressional District 1?

Poll after poll shows that the majority of Americans, regardless of political party, want women to have the right to choose to have an abortion, within common sense time frames. MAGA and LaLota do not believe women, and in our case Long Island women, should have that right.

Long Islanders need the SALT cap removed. We have funded the Trump tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations by limiting our ability to deduct significant taxes from our federal income tax submissions. LaLota has failed to take our case to the Republican leadership. Isn’t that his job?

Gun control, as simple as limiting access to automatic machine guns, is common sense to all Long Islanders. Under the George Bush presidency, automatic rifles were banned and mass shootings disappeared. Do we really need to suffer through another school shooting?

Immigrants are not evil. Long Island grew as a community of immigrants who moved east from New York City and continue to arrive on our island. What community could survive without immigrant workers? Is there a Long Islander who is not from a family of immigrants? Yes, we need common sense border control, but LaLota voted against the bipartisan negotiated border security bill.

In fact, what has LaLota done to improve the lives of his constituents? Nothing.

We have a choice to make in this election. John Avlon will support us on all these issues. We need a congressperson who will think of Long Islanders before he thinks of Mar-a-Lago; someone who believes in the teachers, fisherman, farmers, office workers, students and seniors who are the residents of CD1 and need fair representation.

Women need to vote for John Avlon to regain their rights to choose. Young voters need to vote for John to look to the future and not revert to a mythical past. Senior citizens need to vote for John to protect Social Security and expand Medicare coverage. Men need to vote for John Avlon because he supports everything that makes it possible for their families to thrive and continue to live on Long Island.

CD1 residents need to vote for John because he will fight to protect our environment.

When you vote on November 5 think of yourselves and your families and which candidate will work to improve your lives here on Long Island.
