A Great Crew

To say I am proud is an understatement.

I must personally thank the employees of the Southampton Town Highway Department, who did an amazing job before, during and after this major nor’easter. With Deputy Superintendent Marc Braeger and James Wilson’s leadership, along with the crew leaders, members of the Highway Department went to battle for this town, working through some of the worst conditions this town has seen in a long time.

Lead mechanic Harold Odell and his team in the repair garage worked straight through the weekend and turned the highway garage into a NASCAR pit row, keeping all the equipment up and running throughout the storm in record time.

I also want to thank the many subcontractors that played a part in battling this storm with us.

Supervisor Jay Schneiderman, Town Council members, the Southampton Town Police Department, the Department of Public Safety, and the Department of Parks and Recreation played a major role in assisting the Highway Department with the maneuvering of the storm this past weekend.

A special thanks to the police department for reminding residences to move vehicles off the roads prior to the storm. This made a considerable difference when it came time to clear the roads.

To all the citizens who complied with the rules of the “state of emergency” and actually stayed off the roadways, many thanks.

Working together during a townwide emergency is critical to the citizens of the Town of Southampton. The Highway Department looks forward to joining with all the town departments in the future.
