John Avlon is a very special person, in a most positive way. He is eastern Long Island-based, well-educated, has extensive experience in the news/political world, and has written a topical book on democratic principles. Further, he has been a CNN journalist for a number of years, is very articulate, attractive and resides in Sag Harbor.
Most important, John is policy focused, and a Democrat who cares much about our 1st Congressional District citizens. Lastly, to meet him is to immediately be highly supportive of his national/state/community-based beliefs. Highlighted, they are: reproductive freedom, tax reduction (SALT tax cap), defending democracy, equality for all, gun safety and violence protection, climate change, and health care benefits.
Contrast that to his opponent, the current U.S. representative, Nick LaLota, from the Brookhaven region. He is a devout Donald Trump supporter in every respect, and his 2024 calling card is Project 2025, a very partisan document that essentially promotes the opposite of the above Avlon policy beliefs. That includes being pro-life, a strong Second Amendment gun rights proponent, a nonclimate change believer, an advocate for reduction in Social Security benefits, and much more.
Note: Let me add that Mr. Avlon bested his opponent in the June Democratic primary by a 70-30 margin, reinforcing the strength of his candidacy.
So the choice is clear: Follow, one could say, the “old playbook” of the Trump-led Republican oratory, or step forward with a vote for John and the belief in America’s future.
My commitment, and many others, is for John Avlon. It is unwavering, and so will my vote be on November 5. Please join me.
