Has anyone else noticed the trend in Westhampton of charging 4 percent extra if you use a credit card?
One business starting doing it earlier in the summer, then stopped after many complaints. Just shopped at a deli in Westhampton, and they charge 4 percent if you use a credit card—without any prior notice, and not only on your purchased products but also on the tax.
Please note a merchant legally can charge a fee for using a credit card, but that fee must be stated prior to the purchase. Not doing so is just plain wrong.
Can you imagine the added cost if a 4 percent fee was added to all your credit card purchases?
You may want to ask your local merchant their policy.
