All citizens who remain confused by the continuing silly chatter about the windmill at the college [“New Push To Move Southampton’s Oldest Windmill From College Campus Back to Village,” 27east.com, June 11]: Listen up.
Whoever owns the said land owns the improvements to that said land. Simple. A windmill is an improvement; i.e., a house, a barn, a pigsty, etc.
Legally elected New York State Governor Kathy Hochul may simply permit gifting the windmill to whomever she wants to gift it to — in this case, us. No problem.
So let’s get this done. Today.
Please, before we lose the gift, make it happen. Really, what is the sake of having a Windmill Lane without the windmill? We have enough real problems locally without making a big, embarrassing stink over nothing.
Let us be high-minded and dignified about this simple matter for a nice change. Tell the governor, “Yes, we accept the gift,” and let us be gracious about it, please. We are better than this witless stuff.
Oh, I know: Let us invite the governor to the dedication, regardless of her politics. Oh, what a scary thought.
