Accident Closes CR 39 During Afternoon Rush

An accident on County Road 39 near Tuckahoe Road in Southampton on Thursday afternoon slowed the afternoon commute, with westbound traffic being diverted along Tuckahoe Road.

Southampton Town Police were alerted to the crash at 4:17 p.m. on Thursday, July 6. By 4:52 p.m., the road closure of the westbound lane was announced; eastbound traffic was moving per usual.

With information still not filtered from the scene, police say it appeared a motorcycle was involved. It’s uncertain whether other vehicles were involved. They confirmed a medevac helicopter had been called to respond.

Typically heavy traffic, as the trade parade heads west, was snarled even worse than normal.
