Accident Closes Montauk Highway in Water Mill

Montauk Highway was cleared and reopened in both directions by 7:42 a.m.

Montauk Highway in Water Mill was closed between Cobb Road and Little Cobb Road Wednesday morning due to an accident.

According to Southampton Town Police, at around 5 a.m. the driver of a construction vehicle took evasive action when a deer ran out onto the road. The vehicle flipped, spilling debris and nails across the pavement. The road closed at 5:12 a.m., awaiting a street sweeper to clear the road.

Eastbound traffic was being diverted down Cobb Road and westbound drivers detoured to Little Cobb Road.
