Ada Masci of Westhampton Beach died at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 11. She was 88.

Mrs. Masci was born in Sulmona, Italy, on April 2, 1920, and was raised in Rome.

During World War II, she risked her life to help the Allied cause by joining the resistance movement and was later honored by the Italian government as a true patriot. She became a “war bride” when she married Master Sergeant Fernando P. Masci, a decorated American soldier who was stationed in Rome, in 1946.

After moving 27 times, the last being to the Suffolk County Air Force Base at what is now Francis S. Gabreski Airport, the couple settled in Westhampton Beach.

Mrs. Masci worked for 26 years as head monitor of the Westhampton Beach Elementary School, where she was honored with the planting of a pine tree and plaque dedicated in her name. She was also a faithful member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Quiogue for 45 years.

She is survived by two sons, Frederick and Thomas Masci; two daughters, Susan DiAngelo and Leila Patricia Masci; a sister, Maria Pantaleo; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Pina; and three brothers, Bruno, Dario and Ennio.

A wake was held at the Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach on October 14. Funeral services were held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Quiogue on October 15, and interment followed at Westhampton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Autism Speaks, 5455 Wilshire Boulevard Suite 2250, Los Angeles, California 90036 would be appreciated by the family.
