Adele (Smuk) Friedensohn of Hampton Bays died peacefully at home on April 20. She was 95.
She was born on July 7, 1928, in Middle Village, Queens, the daughter of Mollie and Samuel Smuk.
She was proud to return to school for a Bachelor of Arts degree years after her children’s births, and was a graduate of Molloy College. She was awarded two master’s degrees from Kean University.
Prior to her recent residence in Hampton Bays, she lived in many places during her lifetime, most recently West Palm Beach, Florida. She was a long-time docent at the Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach, and the Parrish Art Museum in Southhampton.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Oscar (Arkie) Friedensohn, to whom she was married for 71 years; and her two siblings, Herbert Smoke and Frances Wolff. She is survived by her four children, Carolyn F. Scanlan (Paul E. Scanlan), Jane I. Friedensohn (Richard Horsch), Peter N. Friedensohn (Patricia Hopkins) and David S. Friedensohn; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
She and her husband loved to travel, and traversed the world during their lifetime together. At a future date, she will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband.
