Adele Tuthill Ray
Adele Tuthill Ray of Southampton died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on February 6. She was 85.
Born in Southampton on July 9, 1927, to Harry Edward Tuthill and Alice (Hallock) Tuthill, she served as a U.S. Navy nurse from 1956 to 1958. After her service, she returned to Southampton and worked as a registered nurse at Southampton Hospital. She earned her master’s degree and, in addition to her regular nursing duties, taught continuing education courses to student nurses.
She was a devoted member of Episcopal Church of St. Mary in Hampton Bays where she was a member of the choir. She was also an honored member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her son, Jonathon Ray and a son-in-law, Charles Banks, both of Milwaukee; and longtime friends, Lee Glover of Cutchogue.
The Reverend Gerald Collins, interim pastor of the Church of St. Mary, officiated at a funeral service at the church on February 16. Burial followed in the family plot in Quogue Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays.
