Adrienne Poole McMullin Dies December 5

author on Dec 15, 2014

Adrienne Poole McMullin died on December 5 of complications during a routine surgery in Naples, Florida. She was 70.

Born on August 20, 1944, in Bayonne, New Jersey, to Sonia and Vin Poole, she was a cheerleader at Sparta High School and graduated from the University of Indiana. An avid skier, she was on the Vernon Valley (now renamed Mountain Creek) Ski Patrol for 35 years. In addition, she had been heli-skiing and took multiple European ski trips. She was an active equestrian up until her death, and her beloved Adonis has retired to Texas and was loved as much as any animal could be, survivors said.

A resident of Naples for 14 years, Ms. McMullin had spent more than 30 years working in Manhattan and became a highly successful management consultant for William M. Mercer Co. before her retirement. The family also had a summer home in Southampton. Rising at 4 a.m. to swim laps most of those days, she was passionate in all things she attempted, as was reflected in her remarkable career at The Equitable and Citibank, survivors said.

They said Ms. McMullin was a wonderful and caring wife who gave her husband a loving hug and kiss at the beginning and the end of every day they were together. Her 70 years were filled with countless activities.

She is survived by her husband, E.F. “Bud” McMullin; stepson, Scott and wife Michele; two grandchildren, Bryce and Wes; and a cousin, Helen Poole Shillito and husband Bob.

Memorial donations may be sent to a charity of choice or the Camp Rusk Foundation, where Ms. McMullin’s horse, Adonis, is retired and where she served for a number of years on the board of directors. To leave online condolences, go to www.fullernaples.com.

An American Story

If you, like I, are having a hard time dealing with the ugly spectacle in Washington, D.C., then perhaps you would like to distract yourself with Ken Burns’s documentaries about America. I am loving “The American Revolution.” Wow! I grew up in an extended family that discussed the Constitution and civics on a daily basis. Not so common these days. As a conscientious American, I am having a hard time remaining patient with this insulting government today. I hope you find it interesting to learn how my family came to America. The Lake Agawam Conservancy has raised and spent millions to begin to clean up Lake Agawam. Our board and supporters consist of residents throughout Southampton Village. Today, thanks to the strong partnership between the conservancy, the village, the town and the State Department of Environmental Conservation, Professor Chris Gobler reports that Lake Agawam is healthier than it’s been in years. In 2024, the conservancy entered into a stewardship agreement to maintain bioswales throughout our village. These bioswales “clean” toxic runoff before it pollutes the lake. At no cost to village taxpayers, the conservancy agreed to install a 1,000-foot bioswale along ... by Staff Writer
