Adrienne Poole McMullin Dies December 5

author on Dec 15, 2014

Adrienne Poole McMullin died on December 5 of complications during a routine surgery in Naples, Florida. She was 70.

Born on August 20, 1944, in Bayonne, New Jersey, to Sonia and Vin Poole, she was a cheerleader at Sparta High School and graduated from the University of Indiana. An avid skier, she was on the Vernon Valley (now renamed Mountain Creek) Ski Patrol for 35 years. In addition, she had been heli-skiing and took multiple European ski trips. She was an active equestrian up until her death, and her beloved Adonis has retired to Texas and was loved as much as any animal could be, survivors said.

A resident of Naples for 14 years, Ms. McMullin had spent more than 30 years working in Manhattan and became a highly successful management consultant for William M. Mercer Co. before her retirement. The family also had a summer home in Southampton. Rising at 4 a.m. to swim laps most of those days, she was passionate in all things she attempted, as was reflected in her remarkable career at The Equitable and Citibank, survivors said.

They said Ms. McMullin was a wonderful and caring wife who gave her husband a loving hug and kiss at the beginning and the end of every day they were together. Her 70 years were filled with countless activities.

She is survived by her husband, E.F. “Bud” McMullin; stepson, Scott and wife Michele; two grandchildren, Bryce and Wes; and a cousin, Helen Poole Shillito and husband Bob.

Memorial donations may be sent to a charity of choice or the Camp Rusk Foundation, where Ms. McMullin’s horse, Adonis, is retired and where she served for a number of years on the board of directors. To leave online condolences, go to www.fullernaples.com.

Perspective Is Everything

In the parking area, a photographer pulls her gear from the back of her car. A second woman stands nearby. She must be the one who hired the photographer, because she’s holding a perfect little baby in her arms as she explains, “So now we’ve gotten past that.” The photographer nods, shouldering the heavy bag, and they advance toward the beach entrance. A young man has been impatiently pacing, waiting for them. His lanky frame, dressed neat as a pin, forced to be ready for picture day, turns and kicks at the sand. Complicity

The opinions of the Southampton Town Board candidates on the issue of gas blowers are against the will of the majority who worked so hard against entrenched interests to restrict their use. The noise of gas blowers reach 85 decibels in my backyard. This level of noise is hazardous to health, not to mention that it prevents one from reading, thinking or functioning in one’s home. Other serious environmental concerns (e.g., harmful particulates in the air) also have been voiced in these pages. It is most disheartening that the monstrous practice of using gas blowers is poised to go unchecked ... by Staff Writer
