Alfred Kistler of Water Mill died peacefully on June 19. He was 90.
Born on December 7, 1932, in Yonkers, he lived a full and adventurous life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him, according to his family.
Following high school, Kistler served his country in the U.S. Navy. He continued his education at SUNY New Paltz, where he met the love of his life, Betty. The two married and went on to build a loving family together, raising their children with the same sense of adventure that defined his life.
His passion for education led him to a fulfilling career as a fifth grade teacher at Southampton Elementary School. His dedication to his students and his ability to inspire a love of the outdoors left a lasting impact on countless young lives.
He was also an active, founding member of the Water Mill Community Club. He was the type of person who never hesitated to lend a helping hand, his family said.
In his free time, he could be found at the beach, hiking, biking or sailing. For 30 years, summers were spent at the cottage on Prince Edward Island with friends and family exploring the beaches and playing golf.
His legacy of love, adventure, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him, his family said.
He is survived by his loving children, Mandy Sachtleben and her husband Ray and David Kistler and his wife Nagomi; his grandchildren, Chad Kistler, Chris Sachtleben, Heather Sachtleben, and Eric Sachtleben; and his great-granddaughter, Brianna Doran. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Betty Kistler.
A small family service will be held at the Water Mill Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to the Water Mill Community Club scholarship committee, PO Box 182, Water Mill NY 11976.
