Alice Guldi Martin of Southampton died peacefully in her North Sea home on October 26. She was 96.
She was born on September 12, 1929, in Southampton to Bertha and Phillip Guldi. She was a lifelong resident of Southampton, graduating from Southampton High School in 1949. She married her husband, Cyril Martin Jr., when he returned from serving in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II. Together they raised two children, Terry Stubelek and Brenda Miller.
She had a passion for sewing, antiquing, gardening, caring for her dogs and home in Fish Cove. She read many books on the history of Southampton and enjoyed sharing stories about her years growing up in North Sea.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandsons on the many trips they took together. Her great-grandsons will remember her home as a place where they learned to swim in her backyard. She has left her family with many memories.
She began her career as a secretary at Guldi’s Electric Shop, and later was employed by the New York Telephone Company as a receptionist until she retired.
She is survived by her daughter, Terry Stubelek; daughter Brenda and her husband Richard Miller; grandson Michael and his wife Cassie Stubelek; grandson Bradley and his wife Janet Miller; great-grandchildren William and Ethan Miller and Ryan Stubelek.
A private graveside service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Sea Maritime Center, PO Box 2813, Southampton, NY 11969 (northseamaritimecenter.org) would be appreciated by the family.
