Alice H. Hastings
Alice H. Hastings, a resident of Hampton Bays for 75 years, died June 26 at Southampton Hospital. She was 97.
Born in Southampton in 1915 to Thomas Gaines and Emily Molyeaux, she had worked in the records room at the Suffolk County treasurer’s office for more than 20 years, eventually becoming a supervisor in the department. When not working, she was devoted to making a home for her family.
Predeceased by her husband of 72 years, William L. Hastings Sr., in 2005, she is survived by her two children, William L. Hastings Jr. and his wife, Ruth, of Hampton Bays, and Alice LaBue and her husband, Thomas, of New Jersey; a sister, Mary Hoag Grigg of Virginia; and 10 grandchildren, Thomas, David and Roy LaBue, Nicole LaBue Borlan, William L. Hastings III, Kimberly Hastings, Allison Allan, Richard, Laurie and Victoria Rayburn. She also is survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Greg, James, Samantha, and Serena Borlan, David and Jason LaBue, Hannah, Emma and Ethan Berg, and Jacob, Nicholas and Lea Rayburn.
Visiting hours were held at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on Thursday, June 28, with a parish prayer service in the afternoon. A funeral Mass was held at the Church of St. Rosalie on Friday morning, June 29, with members of her family serving as pallbearers. Interment followed at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays.
