Americo A. Cancellieri Of Southampton Dies September 25

Americo A. Cancellieri — known to his mfriends as Ric, Rico, or Meric — died at home on September 25, 2019, following a long illness. He was a lifelong resident of Southampton, dying in the same home in which he was born in 1931.

After graduation from Southampton High School, he attended Fordham University, College of Pharmacy, graduating in 1953. Mr. Cancellieri served in the U.S. Army, later founded Cancellieri Pharmacy in Southampton and co-owned Bridgehampton Pharmacy. He was a past president of the Southampton Rotary Club, a member of the Southampton Golf Club for more than 50 years, and a lifelong member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Roman Catholic Church.

Survivors said he loved spending time with his large family, as well as his many friends throughout the community. He was an unassuming man that touched many people in a multitude of ways, they added.

Mr. Cancellieri is survived by his wife, Barbara Muller Cancellieri; his children, Karen Gil (Richard), Steven (Dean), Mark, and Bill (Heidi); his grandchildren, Daniel Gil (Jennifer), Lisa Gil Luna (Walter), Elliana Eve Cancellieri, Quinn Americo Cancellieri; and great-grandchildren Lucas Philip Luna, Scarlett Adele Luna. He is also survived by his caregiver, Frank Rapizo. He was predeceased by his son, Philip Scott Cancellieri; a brother, Carmello P. Cancellieri; and sisters Grace DeJose, Assunta Cambria, Phyllis Jones, and Caroline Burk.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Connell Rothwell Funeral Home in Southampton.

Memorial donations may be made to East End Hospice, eeh.org; or Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance, villageems.org; or a charity of choice.
