I was thrilled to see the cover story about our horseshoe crab population on the East End [“Horseshoe Crabs: The Real Blue Bloods Of The Hamptons, Vulnerable To Extinction,” 27east.com, June 1].
In concert with Pikes Beach, we enjoy a boisterous May month end full of horseshoe crabs a-mating just east of Gunning Point on the bay side. Like clockwork, the full moon near to month’s end seems to ring the bell for dozens if not hundreds of horseshoe crabs to arrive for the annual ritual.
The third generation of Picas have now experienced this ancient, beyond measure, event.

Whatever happens with this Marsden vote, I’ll be happy to move on. Did we forget that it’s okay to disagree without being disagreeable? Running our schools is a complex endeavor. The board members are volunteers. They spent countless (thankless) hours...
Before anyone votes yes on an increase in the sales tax to fund more clean water plans [“Lawmakers, Water ‘Czar’ Pitch Clean Water Plan at Summit in Southampton,” 27east.com, May 10], I would draw their attention to an April 15,...
