Andrew P. Reister of Hampton Bays died at Stony Brook University Medical Center on Saturday, August 9. He was 40.
Mr. Reister, a corrections officer and former president of the Suffolk County Correction Officers Benevolent Association, died from injuries sustained in an August 7 assault in a Southampton Village tavern, where he worked part-time as an ID checker.
He is survived by his wife, Stacey; a daughter, Mary Grace; a son, David; his parents, Halina and George; two brothers, John and his wife Melinda, and James and his wife Patricia; a sister-in-law, Susan Dean and her husband Christopher; his wife’s parents, Joyce and George Kuyava; and eight nieces and nephews, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Sophie, Riley and Brody Reister, and Anna Rose, Adam and Matthew Dean.
A wake was held at the R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on August 12 and 13. A funeral service is scheduled for today, Thursday, August 14, at St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church in Hampton Bays at 10 a.m. Southampton Town Police will close Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays from Bittersweet South to Springville Road from 9 a.m. to noon for the funeral procession.Interment will follow at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays.
