Former Flanders resident Ann P. Webster died in New Smryna Beach, Florida, on Wednesday, June 3. She was 75.
Mrs. Webster was a graduate of Southampton College, where she earned a degree in elementary education at the age of 35. She went on to spend many years teaching at Sacred Heart Elementary School, now known as Our Lady of the Hamptons Regional Catholic School in Southampton, before moving to Tamworth, New Hampshire.
She continued teaching elementary school at the Center Ossipee School District before retiring and moving to New Smyrna Beach.
While residing in Southampton Town, she was active in the North Fork Community Theater and other local theater groups, both acting in and directing plays.
While in Florida, Mrs. Webster returned to her first love, painting, and was involved in the New Smyna Beach Artist League. According to loved ones, she was a gifted artist who worked in watercolors, acrylics and oils, and her work appeared in many local galleries and magazines and also won many awards.
She was known as a free spirit who was loyal to friends and family, and her generosity in nurturing those around her earned her lifelong relationships. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends, and was active in many community volunteer programs.
Mrs. Webster is survived by her husband of 51 years, George; two daughters, Gail Avery and Kim Webster, both of North Carolina; a brother, Tom DeMayo and his wife Randi of Westhampton; a niece, Kim DeMayo; a nephew, Dan DeMayo; and two grandchildren, Michael Barry of North Carolina and Christina Hogan-Webster of Tennessee.
Funeral arrangements were private.
