Anna May Nugent of Westhampton died on Friday, November 17, 2017, at the Hampton Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Southampton. She was 87.

Mrs. Nugent was born May 16, 1930, in Middletown. As a child she moved with her family to East Moriches, where her father, Harry W. Huson, served for many years as a school teacher and principal. In her youth she became interested in music and played saxophone for the dance band at Center Moriches High School, from which she graduated in 1947.

In 1948 she married Harry E. Nugent of Westhampton Beach. Within a few years, the couple opened Nugent’s Paint and Wallpaper Studio on Mill Road in Westhampton, which they operated for more than 40 years. In the 1960s, the couple began ministering to the community through youth Bible clubs held in their home, and in the 1970s through adult Bible studies. In the 1980s and 1990s, Mrs. Nugent served as a teacher and pianist at Community Bible Church in Westhampton. In 1991 she began working as a hall monitor at Westhampton Beach High School, where she worked for nearly 20 years. Above all, she was known for her joy in her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her love for people, survivors said.

Mrs. Nugent is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Sadleir and husband Theodore of Westhampton; her son, Steven and wife Lauren of Florida; son-in-law, Nicholas DiBari of East Quogue; grandchildren, Cynthia Hiddink of Manorville, Cheryl and husband Quinn Sanford of Hawaii, Christina DiBari and Nicholas DiBari III of East Quogue, and Holly Nugent, Collin Nugent, and Miles Nugent of Florida; great-grandchildren, Annika Hiddink, Shane Sanford, and Cooper Sanford; and a sister, Josephine Diedericks of Florida. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; and daughter, Janet DiBari.

A private burial service was held at Westhampton Cemetery under the direction of Werner Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. A memorial service was conducted at Eastport Bible Church.

Memorial donations may be made to the “Bridges” building project of Eastport Bible Church, 386 Montauk Highway, Eastport NY 11941.
