Anna Theisen of Center Moriches, affectionately known as “Omi,” died on June 7. Ms. Theisen was born in Austria in 1924, the first of four children of the late Cecilia Freilinger and Leopold Obermeier. She was raised in a small agrarian town, and like much of the Austrian population during World War II, endured many bombings. After the war, she moved to the United Sates, and raised a family with her American husband, whom she met during the war.
Survivors said she was a proud and dedicated grandmother and that her delicious cooking drew the family together for dinner every Sunday evening. She enjoyed Scrabble, often winning, and Chinese checkers, knitting, chocolate, and soap operas.
In addition to four sisters, she is survived by three children, Lorraine MacLeod of Nevada, Charles Theisen and wife Carol of East Moriches, and Kenneth Theisen and wife Myra of North Carolina; six grandchildren, Cheyenne Dryer, Jessica and Charles Theisen, and Brian, Mark and Thomas Theisen; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass was held July 27 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Center Moriches. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Sinnickson’s Moriches Funeral Home.
