Anthony Hmielenski of Holiday, Florida, formerly of Sag Harbor, died on July 28. He was 89.
Born on January 16, 1926, in Hempstead, he was the son of Joseph and Christina (Zembruska) Hmielenski. A graduate of Hempstead High School, he married Marilyn Lehr on May 5, 1951, and they lived in Hempstead until moving to Sag Harbor, when they bought the launderette, which was built in 1966 and moved to Main Street, where it remains. The couple purchased a home in Florida in 1981 and spent winters there.
Mr. Hmielenski was a member of the Lions Club.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hmielenski is survived by a daughter, Linda Distefano; a son, David Hmielenski; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Viggiano; and his siblings, Helen, Hedwiga, Victoria, Alice, Maryana and Theodore.
A funeral Mass was held on August 6 at St. Andrew’s Church in Sag Harbor, followed by burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor.
