Anthony Markowski
Anthony Markowski of Southampton died on January 20 at the Hamptons Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Southampton. He was 92.
Born in August 1918 in Jenki, Poland, he emigrated to Southampton in 1963; his family joined him in 1964. While in Poland during World War II, Mr. Markowski’s village was invaded and as a result he was captured and as a prisoner of war was forced to endure labor camps for three years. Upon his release he remained in Poland working his farm and raising a family. In Southampton he worked for more than 40 years as an estate caretaker, mostly at the Strauss estate on Ox Pasture Road.
Mr. Markowski was predeceased by his wife, Jadwiga (née Sienkiewicz) in May 1997. He is survived by his three sons, Henry Markowski and Albin Markowski, both of Southampton, and Jerry Markowski of Virginia; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Friday, January 21, at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Mass was held on Saturday at Our Lady of Poland Roman Catholic Church in Southampton. Interment followed at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Southampton.
