Antiquated Machines

I applaud Andrew Messinger’s article against gas-powered leaf blowers [“Problems With Blowers Go Beyond The Noise,” Hampton Gardener, Residence, May 13] and want to support his message.

While Southampton Village has limited the use of these devices during “the season,” they continue to be employed throughout the year. They create both noise and air pollution and are especially damaging to the workers using them, to their hearing and breathing.

As a bike rider and dog walker, having to navigate past the dust storms and vile air produced as bits of debris are blown around is truly disgusting.

It’s time for Southampton Village (and really everyone) to do away with these antiquated machines.
