Around the Hamlets

I worked security today at the Good Ground Park Easter Egg Hunt. My job was to keep 3- and 4-year-olds from jumping the gun before my boss, Christine, announced “go.” It was not an easy job. Maria was concerned for my safety, of getting trampled after we cut the ribbon. But the kids behaved well.

It was an amazing event with food, face painting and gifts for the (hundreds of) kids. Good Ground Park is a credit to Hampton Bays, and it is beautiful. I hope the park gets used for many fun events, including concerts.

If and when Bel-Aire Cove property becomes a park also, its uses will be unlimited. There could be kayak and stand-up paddleboard races, picnic tables, volleyball, a dog run and a food stand, or you could go next door to The Station for exceptionally good food.

Penny Pond has been getting cleaner every year since the motel shutdown. I have seen it firsthand from my kayak, SUP and prone board.

There will be car shows at Westhampton Beach Brewery on Sundays, April 16, May 21, June 11, July 16, August 13. Westhampton Brewery also has great beer every day. I like their Irish Eyes Cream Stout and Jetty 4 Lager.

Macy’s recently received a shipment of beautiful, short-sleeved summer shirts, Hawaiian style. I bought two, and a four-pack of Ralph Lauren colorful socks.

Since warm weather is here, I can send you a list of places to kayak and 60 hiking trails: jim@longislandpaddling.com.
