Arthur J. Wagner
Arthur J. Wagner died at his Riverhead home on April 12. He was 93.
Mr. Wagner was in the Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1945, a bombardier in a B-17, who flew 13 missions in Europe. After the war, he worked for the New York Telephone Company in Manhattan, eventually becoming a manager.
Upon his retirement in 1983, he and his wife Edna, whom he met while stationed in England during the war, moved from Middle Village, Queens, to Riverhead. They became very active members of the Church of St. Mary in Hampton Bays and he was a retired member of the Masons. Although they had no children of their own, they had many very dear friends that were like family to them.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, Mr. Wagner is survived by a nephew, Duncan Oakley of England.
A funeral service was at held at the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, April 16, with interment of ashes in Garden of Remembrance at St. Mary’s. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays.
