August Karzenski
August Karzenski of Southampton died on January 26 at Stony Brook University Medical Center. He was 85.
Born in Aquebogue and raised in Riverhead, Mr. Karzenski was the youngest, and last surviving, of nine children born to Bognia and Cyprian Karzenski. He attended Riverhead High School and after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II and the Korean War. Following his military service, he opened Googie and Gus Custom Floor and Tile.
Mr. Karzenski was an avid sports fan, especially baseball, and when he was young played on the Polish Town Terrors.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia (Hildreth); a daughter, Stacey and her husband Jeff Pedersen; and two sons, Richard and Russell. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Mindy and her husband Rob Lamb, Deborah and her husband Kennth Madeiras; and a stepson, Tom Holdsworth and his wife Laraine; a granddaughter, Jessica; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a stepson, William Holdsworth.
