Will someone tell me who, in our state government, decided to allow empty beds in nursing homes and adult rest home facilities to be filled with recovering COVID-19 patients? The elderly and those confined to multiply occupied dwellings, surely the most vulnerable, are now subject to infection from the added occupants. Nursing homes with little or no COVID-19 infections are now seeing an increase in cases and deaths.
With all the added hospital space — the Javits Center, the hospital ship Comfort and other facilities not nearly filled to capacity — why choose nursing homes to place these contagious patients in? Is there some lobbying pressure to keep these for-profit beds fully occupied?
I can think of no valid reason to introduce this deadly virus to be under the same roof with our most vulnerable population!
