Barbara A. Burke Of Southampton Dies August 9

Barbara A. Burke of Southampton died Friday, August 9, at Southampton Hospital. She was 75.

Ms. Burke grew up in Douglaston, graduated with honors from Columbia University and lived in Manhattan before relocating to Southampton. She worked for Time magazine for more than 30 years as a journalist, senior reporter/researcher, until she retired. She was passionate about photography, travel and politics, her family said.

She is survived by a sister, Nancy B. Quinn; and many nephews and nieces. She also leaves her beloved dog, Trixie.

Visitation was held on Monday, August 12, at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at Our Lady of Poland Roman Catholic Church in Southampton, followed by interment at Sacred Hearts Cemetery, also in Southampton.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
