Barry Feldman of Southampton died peacefully at home on February 3. He was 75.
Born in Brooklyn, he was a graduate of Brooklyn College and Rutgers Law School, where Ruth Bader Ginsberg was one of his favorite professors. In 1974, he joined the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, working in the Rackets and Organized Crime Bureau, where he participated in the prosecution of high profile cases ranging from Son of Sam to notorious mobsters.
Feldman joined the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in 1978, and was assigned to the Major Crime Bureau. During his tenure, he served separately as chief of the Felony Trial Bureau and chief of the East End Bureau. In 1987, Feldman went into private practice in Southampton. He loved the law, working with the courts, the D.A.’s office and serving his clients.
He delighted in his wife Jill, his family said, and she treasured him. He adored their pets. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, editorializing aloud, relaxing on a float in the pool listening to music on a warm summer day and visiting with his friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, three siblings, and his first wife, Harriet. He is survived by his beloved wife; his longtime secretary Lisa Watson; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and acquaintances.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (sasf.org).
