Bay Street To Unveil Theater Plans In Online Presentation Tuesday, April 6

Friends of Bay Street Theater will raise the curtain on their vision for a new home for the Sag Harbor cultural institution at a public webinar on Tuesday, April 6, at 11:30 a.m.

The design of the new theater is being handled by Roger Ferris + Partners, an architectural firm based in Westport, Connecticut, which also has offices in New York City and Bridgehampton. Locally, the firm is known for a modern addition to the Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton and the clubhouse of The Bridge, a private golf club in Noyac.

“Architecturally, it’s beyond beautiful and fits into the character of the village while providing great public access to the water,” said Adam Potter, the founder and chairman of Friends of Bay Street, the not-for-profit organization that was established to build a permanent home for the theater, which has leased space since its founding in 1991 at the foot of Long Wharf.

Mr. Potter will be joined by Mr. Ferris as well as Tracy Mitchell, Bay Street’s executive director, and Scott Schwartz, the theater’s artistic director, in presenting the new plans.

Mr. Potter said he expected the presentation to last from 30 to 45 minutes. He stressed that Bay Street representatives would not take questions.

“First impressions are really important,” he said, “and we want to give people an opportunity to digest this.”

Friends of Bay Street bought the Water Street Shops complex, known for the 7-Eleven convenience store, last October for $13 million. The group hopes to begin work on what it expects to be a two-year construction project on the new Bay Street Theater later this year.
