Benjamin Broox McIntyre died at his home in Southampton on September 24, of pulmonary fibrosis. He was 70.
Born January 15, 1948, Mr. McIntyre was a much-loved member of the community. Raised in Grove Hill Alabama, he moved to Southampton in the early 1980s, where he first worked in real estate with the Cunningham Agency and then moved over to Agawam. He was recruited by Sotheby’s as one of its first brokers in 1988. Eventually he moved to Dunemere/Brown Harris Stevens in 1998, where he worked until his death.
Mr. McIntyre graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in both psychology and math in 1970, and a master’s in social work in 1972. He was admitted on full scholarship to the Institute for Studies in Rome for the summer of 1971. He went on to earn a doctorate from the University of Georgia with a major in education and a minor in public administration, which he competed in 1980.
Never married, Mr. McIntyre was a great entertainer and loved to give dinner and cocktail parties for his close group of friends at his home in Southampton.
He was predeceased by his parents, Woodrow Wilson McIntyre and Osenia Jordan Vernon. His closest living family members are his brother, Woodrow “Woody” Wilson, and sister, Sandra Elizabeth Squires, and nephew Dale Squires and niece Karen Squires Elmore.
He also leaves his godchildren and his dog, Fidel.
A memorial will be held at his home in Southampton on Saturday, December 8, from 2 to 5 p.m.
