Longtime Southampton resident Bernard N. Oliver died on November 11 at Westhampton Care Center in Westhampton, after an extended illness. He was 85.
Born March 19, 1923, at Huntington Hospital to Anthony and Ethel (née Norton) Oliver, he graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy with three engineering degrees and was a member of Chi Epsilon, the national civil engineering honor society and fraternity. He was president of both Oliver Building & Realty Corp. and Oliver Real Estate.
A past master of both Old Town Lodge in Southampton and Wamponamon Lodge in East Hampton, he was also director emeritus of the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Southampton.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, Jane Furnald Oliver of Southampton, he is survived by a daughter, Pamela and her husband Paul Curreri of Southampton; two sons, Clifford Oliver of Southampton and Donald Oliver and his wife Robin of Southampton; two brothers, Edwin Oliver and Kenneth Oliver, both of Southampton; four granddaughters, Elana and Gina Curreri and Ashley and Diana Oliver; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A brother, Leonard Oliver predeceased him.
Funeral services, officiated by Elder Richard King, were held on November 14 at Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton; interment followed at Southampton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the North Sea Fire Department Scholarship Fund, 149 Noyac Road, Southampton, NY 11968 would be appreciated by the family.
