For nearly two years, I have had the pleasure of serving as a trustee in the Village of Southampton. Performing service as a public official for our village residents and greater community has been filled with many challenges and many firsts.
While some are quick to criticize or point fingers, holding office has shown me the importance of understanding the intricacies of interdepartmental operations. I have done my homework and I can look back and fully know each decision I made was with selfless consideration for the betterment and protection of our village resources.
Looking to the future, I have always considered the position of trustee as more of a sense of stewardship within our community. As the only lifelong resident on the board, I can attest that we are a rather diverse community. That said, we have to encourage working with all residents and understanding different perspectives to enhance our elected stewards to serve as strong managers.
The goal of a strong manager should be to take feedback and input with the intention of implementing it in a streamlined process. There may not always be a clear answer, or even a right answer, but it is up to those we elect as stewards to steer the ship the best they can.
Since my last election, I have tried to always demonstrate and utilize my knowledge of government. I have not been afraid to ask the hard questions. Southampton has been around for over 375 years, and our village has been in existence for over 125 years. If we want our village to be around for another 125 years, we must act now.
Keeping that in mind, I have always held the cornerstones of my candidacy to focus on preserving historic character, being environmentally conscious and fiscally responsible, and personal accessibility. I will continue to and ensure smooth operations within our village government.
Many who are observing what is occurring in our community realize that we are at a crossroads. It is important to encourage all active residents to vote to preserve Southampton Village for future generations.
As many are aware, I have my kickoff St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser at Union Steak and Sushi this coming Saturday, March 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. Please consider attending.
It is my hope that I have your vote in June to continue serving you as your Southampton Village trustee, and I thank you in advance for your support.
