Bicyclist Struck in Westhampton, County Road 31 Closed

County Road 31 in Westhampton was closed Monday morning, September 26, near Rogers Avenue as Southampton Town Police investigated an accident involving a bicyclist and a car.

Police said Justin Glover, 39, of Remsenburg was driving in a 2018 Chevrolet Volt around roadwork when the bicyclist, Sandy Smith, 58, of Westhampton, pulled out and was struck.

Glover remained at the scene and no criminality is suspected, according to police.

Southampton Town Police responded and requested additional personnel for assistance. Westhampton Beach Police, the Suffolk County sheriff’s office, Westhampton Beach Fire Department, and Westhampton Beach Volunteer Ambulance responded as well. Suffolk County Aviation was requested to fly the victim to Stony Brook University Hospital for further medical attention.

County Road 31 just north of the railroad crossing was closed for almost four hours.
