The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton boys and girls indoor track teams sent a handful of athletes to the Section XI Championships at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on Monday night, and while some of them got close, none qualified for the state championships.

Bridgehampton senior Leslie Samuel and East Hampton junior Ryleigh O’Donnell were both close to qualifying in their respective meets, but just missed. Samuel placed fourth in the girls long jump with a leap of 17 feet 7 inches, while O’Donnell also placed fourth in the girls 600-meter run in 1:40.31. Both needed to finish third in order
to move on to the state
championships.

East Hampton junior Brayan Rivera was the lone Bonac boys representative on Monday night. He finished the 600-meter run in 1:27.39. Pierson senior Meredith Spolarich tied for seventh place in the girls high jump with Ward Melville senior Abigail Sasson after both cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the same amount of attempts. East Hampton junior Dylan
Cashin finished ninth in the county in the girls 3,000-meter race in 10:58.98.
And the girls 4x400-meter relay team of O’Donnell, Spolarich, Sam Ruano and Melina Sarlo finished ninth in 4:28.17.
