Brenda Maria Lee of Stamford, Connecticut, died on July 19 at Stamford Hospital, after a short illness. She was 69.
She was born on November 11, 1954, in Southampton. She was a member of the Shinnecock Nation and a lifelong resident of Stamford.
She attended Stamford Public Schools, graduating from Stamford High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Fairfield University.
From 1988-2006, she worked at International Paper Foundation as program officer, which included the daily management of a multimillion-dollar grant making program. Later, she transitioned to Goldman Sachs and Company in New York City, as a grant manager, which led her to a higher position of vice president of corporate engagement. She retired from Goldman Sachs in 2022.
She was a loving, kind and very generous person, her family said, and truly loved and cared for her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her sisters and friends and she will be missed by many, they said.
She was predeceased by her mother, Barbara M. Lee; father, William F. Duncan; her two sisters, Valerie D. Lee and Daryl I. Lee; stepfather, James W. Davis; and grandparents, Ferdinand and Esther Beaman Lee of Southampton.
She is survived by her brother, Randell Duncan; aunts, Florence C. Etheridge and Thelma D. Lee; and numerous cousins, family, friends, and godchildren. She also leaves behind her best friend, Nadine Little, who was with her in her final days and hours.
A graveside burial will take place on the Shinnecock Territory on Saturday, August 24.
