Brenda Vancilla Walker of Bridgehampton died on October 15. She was 62.
She was born on November 19, 1958 to the late William and Margaret Walker, affectionately known as Sonny and Jackie.
Ms. Walker attended the Bridgehampton Public School district, and graduated in 1977. After graduating, she attended Norfolk University, but returned home and enrolled in Wilford Academy School for Beauty and Cosmetology, from which she graduated and became a licensed cosmetologist.
A dedicated employee, Ms. Walker worked at both Pulver Gas and the Bridgehampton Rite Aid Pharmacy for many years. At the time of her death, she was enrolled at the College of the Albermarle in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, where she was pursuing a degree in human services.
A woman of great faith, according to her family, Ms. Walker was introduced to the church at an early age where she was a member of the Sun Beam and Youth Choir at the First Baptist Church of Bridgehampton. She remained a faithful member until she relocated to North Carolina in 2017. During her time at the church, she served on the usher board and didn’t hesitate to lend her time and talent to assist in any capacity needed. Ms. Walker rededicated her lift to Christ and was rebaptized in the Pasquotank River becoming a member of the Word of Reconciliation Church.
Ms. Walker was a stranger to few and loved by many, her family said. The greeting of her warm smile and infectious laughter will be missed. She was a proud and active member of Swing Phi Swing Fraternity.
She had a palate for “all things Jamaican” from the food, culture and music … down to the charm of the men. While Ms. Walker enjoyed many pastimes, her greatest love and joy was her son Eric. The loyalty, love, support and devotion they shared was known to all, according to her family. They were each other’s biggest cheerleaders and were truly “two peas in a pod.” If you knew them, you know they were together more often than not.
Ms. Walker was a devoted mother, loving sister, aunt and friend.
She was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her son Eric Mack of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; two brothers, Jarvis Ferebee of Elizabeth City and Roland Walker (Devora) of Riverhead; three aunts, Shirley Jackson (Godmother) of Amityville, Cassandra Brown of Patchogue and Betty Malone (Noah) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two uncles, Otis Riddick (Hilda) of Southampton and Norris Riddick of Southampton; seven nieces and nephews, Shanell George (goddaughter) of Elizabeth City, Lawrence Ferebee of Elizabeth City, Jason George (Jasmine) of Winterville, North Carolina, Courtney Walker of Brooklyn, Monique-Ferebee-Dashiell (Jermaine) of Elizabeth City, Brittany Ferebee (Clay) of Elizabeth City, Briana Ferebee of Suffolk, Virginia; a special cousin Angie Booker (Mark) of Richmond, Virginia; a goddaughter, Lauren Myrick of Bridgehampton; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
