Former Sag Harbor resident Brian Edward Doyle of Dover, New Hampshire, died at his home on December 14 of a heart attack. He was 60.
Born in New Rochelle, on October 30, 1948, to Madeline and Edward Doyle, he spent his formative years summering in Sag Harbor. He graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, receiving a bachelor’s and master’s degree in oceanography, and was the associate director for the New Hampshire Sea Grant Program and program leader of the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension Sea Grant and Water Resources.
An avid golfer, he was one of the first junior club champions at the Sag Harbor Golf Club and was a member of the Portsmouth Country Club. According to survivors, he was known for his great love of the game, and shared it fondly with his many friends he met on the links over the years and with his son, Brian Christopher Doyle.
In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife, Mary Chris; two sisters, Claire Blodorn of Sag Harbor and Maureen Boyan of New Rochelle; a brother, James Doyle of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a girlfriend, Martine Bishop and her daughter Nathalie, with whom he resided in New Hampshire, .
The family will receive visitors on December 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 19, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church in Sag Harbor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
