Brian J. Loetscher of Many, Louisiana, and formerly of Hampton Bays died on Friday, July 25. He was 46.

A graduate of the California Institute of Technology, Mr. Loetscher was a noted figure in the commercial diving world, working for more than 20 years at many challenging assignments around the world, and breaking many records for his underwater feats.

Survivors said this week that he was a dedicated family man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his dogs.

He is survived by two daughters, Brandi and Abigail Loetscher; a son, Matthew Loetscher; his mother, Patricia Perkins and her husband James; his father, Robert Loetscher and his wife Bonnie; three brothers, Robert, Mark, and Eric Loetscher; two sisters, Kim Dezelic and Jennifer Martino; and two grandchildren, Vicky and Jessie Seaman.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, John and Martha Kowalski, and John and Meta Loetscher.

A memorial service will be held at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on Friday, August 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church in Southampton on Saturday, August 9, at 10:30 a.m. Mr. Loetscher’s ashes will be scattered at sea on Sunday August 10, at 10:30 a.m., with vessels leaving from Molnar’s Landing marina in Hampton Bays. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a fund to benefit Mr. Loetscher’s children, payable to Kim Dezelic, Apt. 1131, 500 East 77th Street, New York, NY 10162 would be appreciated by the family.
