Lifelong Hampton Bays resident Brian Jay Penny died at Southampton Hospital on May 19. He was 76.
A graduate of Hampton Bays High School, he worked as a repairman for the New York Telephone Company assigned to the Hampton Bays area. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose of Riverhead, the Odd Fellows Lodge and the New York Telephone Pioneers.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa (née Scott) Penny of Hampton Bays; two daughters, Kim Wourgola of Wading River and Tracy Raymond of East Quogue; two sons, Brett Penny of Florida and Lance Penny of Hampton Bays; a sister, Jeanne McConnell of Hampton Bays; three brothers, Captain Alvin Penny, Esmond Penny and Paul Penny, all of Hampton Bays; four grandchildren, Shane Wourgola, Caitlin Conlon, Brynn Raymond and Darcy Raymond; and two great-granddaughters, Kailei Conlon and Addison Conlon.
In addition to his parents, Alexander and Allene Penny, he was predeceased by a son-in-law, John Wourgola, and a brother, Francis Penny.
The family received visitors on May 21 at J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays, where funeral services were conducted on May 22 by Reverend George Mangan, pastor of the Hampton Bays United Methodist Church. Cremation followed at Mount Pleasant Crematory in Center Moriches.
