An eight-minute shelter in place order at the Southampton Elementary School on the morning of February 27 resulted from a sonic device used to clear birds from a property.
The Southampton School District issued a statement that said the lockdown ended at 11:08 “after a disturbance in close proximity to the school was determined clear.”
The Southampton Village Police Department got a “call of gunshots in the area” on Tuesday and ordered the 11 a.m. lockdown, said Village Police Chief Susan Hurteau.
Officers were on the scene within minutes and determined that the disturbance was caused by a “wildlife dispersal device” that a South Main Street resident was using to “get geese off their property,” said Hurteau.
