Bruce Nelson McKay of Southampton died on November 15 at Southampton Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 61.

McKay was born in Stony Brook on June 15, 1960, to Donald and Joyce McKay. The family moved to Water Mill, where Bruce and his older brother Scott attended Southampton schools. McKay and his brother worked with their parents at Don McKay Chrysler in Southampton, which was later bought by Lester Kay Motors, where McKay ran the shop and service department.

His love for cars continued throughout his entire life, his family said. Lexus of Southampton was his current employer, where he was the used car manager. People that knew McKay described him as honest, hard working, loyal, and caregiving.

McKay loved sunset cruises on his boat with his wife Debbie of 43 years.

He is survived by his wife Debbie; son Matthew and wife Alexandria and granddaughter Ella Grace of Rhode Island; and son Jason McKay of Southampton, and two grand-dogs Roxie and Jayda, whom he loved; his brother Scott of Southhold; many brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews, cousins, aunt and uncle.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, November 27, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Southampton. Reception to follow in the church parlor.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the church (1stpresbyterian.church) would be greatly appreciated.

Two Steps Forward

There is a healthy debate surrounding The Express News Group’s annual list of “Water Hogs,” the somewhat inelegant moniker given to the South Fork’s biggest residential consumers of water. Is it an effort to shame the Suffolk County Water Authority’s “super users”? Or a reasonable effort to inform the authority’s other customers of the property owners who are doing far less to preserve water, especially at a moment when all 1.2 million customers are subject to a Stage 1 Water Alert calling for conservation? Either way, the focus should be on what needs to happen — and that is clearly ... by Editorial Board
