I am honored to serve as Southampton Town supervisor and grateful to the residents who have entrusted me with this responsibility. As I seek reelection, I remain mindful that the office belongs to the people, not the person who holds it.
Since taking office, a significant accomplishment has been the way we conduct the people’s business: openly, thoughtfully, and with respect for every resident. Government works best when those entrusted to lead are honest with the public, listen to differing views, and carry out their responsibilities with integrity. The people of Southampton deserve nothing less.
That is why I believe it is essential to elect a Town Board that shares these qualities. Our town needs leaders who are measured in their words, respectful in their disagreements, and careful to act only with the authority the public has granted them. We cannot afford anything less than a board that is trustworthy and dedicated to advancing the town’s work in good faith.
Looking forward, my priorities are clear. We must continue to provide for public safety; maintain our infrastructure; balance preservation of open space with the creation of affordable housing; advocate for the South Fork commuter connection and other transportation initiatives; protect our water supply by ending polluting land uses, whether once permitted or never lawful; support of seniors and youth; and complete the update of the comprehensive plan so that it reflects both the goals of each hamlet and the needs of the town as a whole.
I thank you again for the privilege of serving as town supervisor. Together, with leadership that is honest, respectful and truly representative of the public, we can preserve what is best about Southampton, address what must be changed, and build a future worthy of the generations to come.
