After a two-week trial, “Southampton in the Streets,” an effort to provide village businesses with a boost by closing Main Street and Jobs Lane to vehicular traffic Friday and Saturday nights, is on hold for at least a week. Robert L. Knotoff of Remsenburg died on July 4 at Peconic Bay Medical Center following a long illness. He was 82. Mr. Knotoff was born January 5, 1938 to Lillian and William Knotoff. He served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Knotoff owned Hampton Stationary in Westhampton Beach and McCabes in Riverhead. He was a member of Westhampton Rotary, Beach United Methodist Church, the Westhampton and Riverhead chambers of Commrece, and the Remsenburg Association. Uzhca, 38, of Sag Harbor, was arrested by Sag Harbor Village Police and charged with aggravated DWI and DWI, both misdemeanors, as well as for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to stop at a stop sign on July 2 around 12:35 a.m. According to police. Mr. Uzhca was driving a white 2015 Ford commercial van that drove into the woods on Milton Avenue. Police said when they discovered the vehicle, the van was running but with no passengers. The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for long Island as Tropical Storm Fay makes its way up the Eastern coastline. The storm could bring heavy rain and tropical-force winds to the East End Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. A flash flood watch was also issued for parts of the East End, with two to four inches of rain expected. The exact track of the storm has yet to be determined. A Riverhead man was arrested Thursday morning in connection with an assault at the Suffolk County bus stop at the traffic circle in Riverside after Southampton Town Police said that an argument over wearing a protective face covering became physical. Ernest Ryshaun Clay, 43, of Riverhead was arrested at about 9:45 a.m. and charged with third degree assault, a misdemeanor, police said. When police arrived at the scene, they found a 46-year old woman suffering from a laceration to her head.
